some close-ups
the garden at the end of july...
the garden in early-june...
this is the way the garden looked when i left for my bike tour across Europe...you can see collards, kale, chard, turnips, etc., coming up in the circles.....and tiny tomato and pepper plants on the right...
start of the garden 2009
at the behest of a former student, laura, who is my co-gardener this year, we redesigned with circles that sort of form the shape of the mathematics symbol for infinity...i like it. my previous garden design was haphazard and not really thought-out, just slapped together...inside the circles will be all sorts of greens and other vegetables. tomatoes/peppers will still dominate the garden, to the south of the sidewalk...

the farm....return from China 2007
tomato-loving squirrels!
so, if this weren't so cute, i might get upset.....squirrels gotta get some vitamin C somewhere...
ps. i harvest the tomatoes as soon as they start to show a little red--so they don't drop off and rot on the ground--and leave them in the sun on the back porch...usually, a fail-safe plan. ha ha!

the concrete project
here's three photos.....one taken when i first moved in, of the back "yard"...when there still was a yard. ha ha! anyway, you can see the concrete parking pad that was formerly behind my house. the other photo is a work-in-progress of me tearing out the concrete [with a mattock], and the other is after i have put topsoil down on it. tonite i will amend the soil with some sand and peat, and tomorrow i will plant the corn. yay!
