april garden

you can see a nice picture here of how my parsley and chives both survived the winter and are already growing [and i'm already cooking with them]. also, i have laid some paving stones alongside my house to clean up that area a bit. i can't plant there because if i water it, it might soak into my basement...so, the stones are a nice touch i think. also, here is a photo of my garlic which i planted this winter...
it will line my sidewalk and be very pretty, i hope.

the garlic is coming up--much of it heirloom, from italy...
but also some "Seoul Sister" korean garlic from a friend of a friend [thanks, nancy!]

planting potatoes

i am about a month behind planting my potatoes. they should be planted on st.patrick's day, ha ha! anyway, this is how you plant potatoes--just go to the garden store and buy some seed potatoes [though the ones you eat would also be fine], cut them up so that each portion has a "eye" in it [a sprout], and then put them in the ground. very easy!
